Unlike many remote controlled programs like VEX and FRC, Botball requires participants to develop C code that can drive their robot accurately. This often involves LOTS of sensors, like the gyroscope, Back EMF, Analog Sensors, or Digital Sensors.
Botball is completely autonomous which is great for many careers! Often, defense, aerospace, communications, and software engineering, manual remote operations can be too costly, slow, or unreliable. So, many industry leaders instead use fully autonomous systems which are often capable of real-time decision making, adaptive navigation, and recovering from mistakes without human intervention.
Unfortunately the Botball program is very expensive, and so is autonomous robotics. We need a multitude of processors, batteries, battery chargers, sensors, servos, motors, metal and more! Registration for the tournament is additionally very expensive.
Not only do we participate in the Botball program but we also aim to provide 5-8 students with over 200+ hours of active learning. This includes but is not limited to learning about the program, learning how to efficiently use sensors, what our previous robots were, and some of our BIGGEST mistakes on those robots.
